Abstract
The mechanics of slender structures, from crumpled paper to honey filaments, challenges conventional fluid and elasticity theories that assume small deformations, finite stresses, or low curvatures. Defined by their extreme length-to-thickness ratios, these structures readily exhibit extreme deformation patterns. In this talk, I will present some highlights from our studies on the elasto/hydro-dynamics of slender fluid and elastic systems. Through simple table-top experiments, we explore phenomena well beyond linear instability thresholds, uncovering some intricate and aesthetically striking outcomes driven by straightforward external stimuli.
